Business deal work handshake people

Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) has appointed Willem van Wyk as chief executive for Dubai. He will lead the insurer’s Dubai office, which offers solutions in property, liability, financial lines, engineering, energy and marine.

Van Wyk, who has more than 25 years of experience working in insurance, will report to Carsten Scheffel, member of the board of management and chief regions and markets officer.

Before joining AGCS in 2008 as head of market management Australia, van Wyk was Marsh head of business development in Dubai and, prior to that, regional manager for insurer Commercial Union in South Africa.

Scheffel commented: “AGCS has identified substantial potential for growth in MENA and I’m convinced that Willem’s leadership skills will help him succeed in this position.”

“We are pleased to see Willem take this new role, bringing a lot of experience and expertise in a growth market for AGCS. He has developed our Australian business in recent years with great success.”
