The service promises to provide initial loss estimates in a matter of days

Marsh & McLennan Companies’ Guy Carpenter has launched a satellite-based catastrophe evaluation service that provides loss assessments globally.

The new service, GC CAT-VIEW, analyses output from various areas to produce initial loss estimates, including satellite and radar imagery, footage from unmanned aerial vehicles, media and social media, and survey data.

The service has already been used to predict initial insured losses caused by the recent floods in the UK.

Vic Jenkins head of analytics UK, MENA and South Africa at Guy Carpenter said: “Previously, establishing a reliable flood extent would have taken a considerable amount of time and required significant expense to compile and verify the necessary data.

“Using the latest imaging and analysis technology, we can respond quickly to a catastrophe event, providing our clients with robust information to help them plan and respond in a matter of a few days following the deployment of GC CAT-VIEW.”
