The Commission For Racial Equality is asking British employers to take part in a consultation on its revised code of practice in employment

The three-month public consultation has been launched to gain feedback on the updated code, which sets standards for achieving racial equality at work.

The revised code, which has been developed in partnership with key organisations from the public, private and voluntary sectors, aims to give practical advice to employers, recruitment agencies, trades unions and individual employees on how to meet their obligations under the Race Relations Act.

Key changes to the code include:

- increased accessibility in terms of language and style

- an accurate reflection of current legislation and the modern world of work

- more real-life employment tribunal case study examples

- detailed guidance on topics such as positive action, ethnic monitoring and racial equality policies.

The draft code, with a feedback questionnaire, can be downloaded from www.cre.gov.uk/employment code. The deadline for submissions is 6 August.
