The risk manager and DVS president will join HDI Gerling

Siemens’ head of insurance and risk management Stefan Sigulla is to step down from his post early next year to join German industrial insurer HDI Gerling Insurance.

The move, which will take place in January 2011, is understood to eventually disqualify Sigulla from continuing in his current position as president of the German risk management association, DVS. Only risk managers are meant to hold that post.

Sigulla, who is a trained lawyer, is one of the most prominent risk managers in Germany. He is set to become a member of the board with HDI Gerling insurance in Hanover.

Local media broke the news on the morning of the second day of the DVS conference in Munich, where around 590 participants had gathered to discuss insurance and risk issues in the German market.

StrategicRISK spoke to Sigulla who confirmed the story. The DVS, however, were unable to confirm at this stage who would replace Sigulla at the top of the association.

HDI Gerling, part of the Talanx group, is one of the biggest insurers of property and casualty risks in Germany.
