Benmosche to step down during the first quarter of next year

Two front-runners have emerged in the race to succeed Robert Benmosche as the new chief executive of AIG.

The insurer’s board has narrowed the field to two internal executive: Peter Hancock and Jay Wintrob, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Hancock runs the giant US insurance conglomerate’s global property-casualty business, while Wintrob is in charge of AIG’s life-insurance and retirement-services unit.

The 69-year-old Benmosche, who is being treated for cancer, has outlined plans to step down during the first quarter of next year.
