The US consults on three draft guidances in preparation for a flu pandemic

The government of the United States is requesting comment on the proposed stockpiling of antiviral drugs by employers in preparation for a flu pandemic.

The consultation is part of the development of a strategy to prepare for and respond to a flu pandemic.

The Department of Health and Human Services has issued three draft guidances, on the use and purchase of facemasks and respirators; on antiviral drug use and antiviral drug stockpiling by employers.

It is projected, based on historical experience and given the current US population, a pandemic today could result in the deaths of up to 2m people in the US alone.
