Continues trend established in the 1990s
The decline in claim frequency for workers compensation injuries has continued into 2007, but the magnitude is much smaller than in the previous two years, said NCCI Holdings.
The claim frequency dropped by 2.5% in 2007, a more modest improvement than the 7% drop in the two previous years, said the annual study.
Virtually every major employment category examined has experienced marked declines.
The research also found that while claim frequency was down, indemnity and medical severities continued to rise.
Key findings of NCCI's analysis are:
Over the last five years, there were significant declines in total lost-time claims frequency for all industries, geographic regions, and employer sizes
Permanent total claims have increased significantly over the last three years
The rise in permanent total claims is evident across industries, regions, and payroll sizes
