Technological changes mean that, if you have real talent and imagination, you will have better opportunities in the future to reap the rewards, said Frances Cairncross, management editor of The Econom

In a keynote speech, she highlighted the areas where she believed the greatest changes would occur as a direct or indirect result of technology.

These were:

- knowledge management - creating a culture of sharing ideas and innovation
- recruiting, retaining and training - identifying and coaching value
- creating corporate communities - making people feel they belong
- customer relations - providing a single view for the customer
- purchasing and supply - trust and common standards with strategic suppliers
- corporate structure - new degrees of flexibility
- leadership and managerial skills.
