Risk managers need to meet disruption with daring, according to Brigitte Bouquot, president of AMRAE

Risk managers need to meet disruption with daring, according to Brigitte Bouquot, director of insurance and risk management, Thales, speaking at FERMA’s 2017 forum in Monte Carlo.

Bouquot, who is also president of French risk management industry group AMRAE, said: “The risk manager should dare to challenge more the processes to ensure the core issues of risk management are embedded in the new way of doing business.

“The world is being disrupted and with that you are seeing more and more disruptive leaders. They want new business models and there is a very strong momentum to do things differently,” she continued.

Risk managers should be at the centre of developing the risk awareness and the risk culture of a business, and position themselves even closer to the CEO and executive committee, she emphasised.

“While continuing to manage everyday risks, risk managers also need to be prepared to focus on future issues and deploy their expertise in modelling and risk scenarios to manage this new environment. While this is a challenge, it’s also fascinating for them,” said Bouquot.

“I am concerned about communication and culture and where this positions the risk manager. Not everyone wants to hear about what it wrong and that’s a worrying fact,” she added.
