Despite the blackouts that affected London, New York and Rome last year, research indicates that the majority of IT managers and CTOs were unaware of the extent of the data loss from power outages

According to a recent global survey by PriceWaterhouse Coopers, 91% of companies believe that blackouts will become a common occurrence. Despite this, only one in 10 UK businesses admitted having a disaster recovery plan in place to protect mission-critical data.

Another recent survey from the NCC group highlighted that the majority of business services companies face IT shutdown within two hours of losing power, half of government agencies' key IT systems would last an hour and just 15% could run indefinitely without power.

Access to a continuous power supply is key to backing up and protecting data. A report on the views of top European executives at Global 1000 companies highlighted access to a continuous power supply as a key factor in choosing a data centre to back up and recover mission critical data.
