How AI is pushing risk management from control to strategy

At Risk-!n, Lisa Bechtold of Nestlé and Mindy Simon of Aon said AI can help risk managers make faster, better-informed decisions, but only if organisations get the data, governance and accountability right.

AI may be the technology dominating boardroom conversations, but the biggest shift for risk managers is not the tool itself. It is what AI could allow the function to become: more data-driven, more forward-looking and more directly involved in strategic decisions.

At the Risk-!n conference in Zurich, Lisa Bechtold, head of group risk management at Nestlé S.A., and Mindy Simon, chief operating officer at Aon, said AI is already changing how organisations analyse risk, challenge assumptions and make decisions. But both warned that its value depends on the quality of the data, the strength of governance and the ability of humans to remain in control.
