Radical taxes levied on the telecom, energy and retail sectors

New radical taxes were announced yesterday for the telecom and energy sectors, as well as for larger retail chains operating in Hungary, according to CMS Cameron McKenna LLP.

The lawyers said the taxes are expected to be based on sales revenue. Details are unclear about who will be liable and at what rate.

It’s expected that these taxes will be in addition to the current “Robin Hood” tax (affecting the energy sector) and the financial levy (affecting the financial sector).

But the taxes could be payable this present financial year.
