Bloomberg hires chief risk & compliance officer

Bloomberg has named Paul Wood as its chief risk and compliance officer. He will oversee all risk, corporate compliance, client data security, and security globally and report to Daniel L. Doctoroff, Bloomberg L.P.’s CEO and president.

The newly created role centralises existing functions responsible for identifying and managing risk and compliance across all Bloomberg businesses and regions. Wood will work closely with senior executives and the Board to identify, propose and implement enhancements to the management and monitoring of risk, compliance and information and physical security.

He will also work closely with other company stakeholders and external parties, as appropriate, to manage and resolve risk, compliance and information-related issues.

“Companies have never faced a more complex set of challenges around risk, compliance and information management, requiring new approaches to successfully address them,” Doctoroff said. “The appointment of a chief risk and compliance officer is a key step in our drive to set new industry standards.”

Denmark-based Saxo Bank Appoints John Carmichael as chief risk and compliance officer

Saxo Bank has appointed John Carmichael as chief risk and compliance officer and member of the Board of Management and Executive Team.

The bank says the appointment aligns with its ongoing commitment to further reinforcing governance structures, risk management and compliance following its designation as a Systemically Important Financial Institution (SIFI).

John Carmichael, who previously served as the Head of Internal Audit, brings extensive experience and a deep understanding of the bank’s operations, and his leadership will play a pivotal role in further enhancing the company’s risk and compliance.

The appointment is subject to the necessary regulatory approvals.

Christine Lynch named group chief risk officer at Quintet Private Bank

Quintet Private Bank, headquartered in Luxembourg and operating across Europe and the UK, has appointed Christine Lynch as group chief risk officer and member of the Authorized Management Committee, subject to regulatory approval.

Lynch brings over 25 years of international experience. She most recently served as head of enterprise risk, Europe, at HSBC. Over the course of her career, she also served in roles such as HSBC’s regional chief risk officer for the Middle East, North Africa & Turkey, and chief risk officer at HSBC Private Bank Switzerland.

Group CEO Chris Allen said: “She will make an important contribution to Quintet’s sustained growth by maintaining a sound risk-management framework, ensuring that we manage risk appropriately, reflecting the interests of all our stakeholders.”

Dudley Building Society appoints of Andrew Turvey as chief risk officer

Dudley Building Society has announced the appointment of Andrew Turvey as chief risk officer, subject to regulatory approval.

Turvey brings a broad range and depth of experience across different risk disciplines and regulatory compliance, having previously worked for building societies, banks and the Financial Conduct Authority. He is an active Data Standards Committee member for the Bank of England.

He said: “My main role as CRO will be to keep the Society safe by making sure we identify and manage risk appropriately. It’s a very collaborative role working closely with senior management.”

Bank of Valletta announces appointment of a new chief risk officer

The Bank of Valletta has announced the appointment of Danielle Grima as chief risk officer (CRO).

As CRO, Danielle Grima will be responsible for leading all risk management functions including financial, product, operational, and enterprise risk.

Grima started her career at the Central Bank of Malta in 2003 as part of the Financial Stability Department, with responsibility for data aggregation and analyses of data received from credit and financial institutions.

She joined Bank of Valletta in 2011 as head of the Enterprise Risk Management Unit, responsible for the oversight of a wide range of risks.

Evelyn Partners appoints Bindesh Sajvani as chief risk officer and group head of compliance

Bindesh Sajvani has been appointed as the group chief risk officer at Evelyn Partners.

He joins from Pendal Group, the owner of J O Hambro Capital Management, where he was the global chief risk officer. Prior to this he was GCRO for Intermediate Capital Group Plc.

He is a qualified accountant and previously worked at Ernst & Young, where he was a senior consultant in the Business Risk Consultancy practice.

Hawk AI welcomes Maximilian Riege as chief risk officer

Hawk AI, a provider of technology for fraud and anti-money laundering surveillance, has appointed Maximilian Riege as CRO.

“Max is a big win for Hawk AI. With his outstanding knowledge and experience of governance, regulations, risk, and data security, he will ensure that we continue to be the trusted partner of choice,” said Tobias Schweiger, CEO at Hawk AI.

Riege brings a depth of senior management experience to his new position. He was most recently managing director and chief operating officer at Penta, where he oversaw governance, regulatory functions including AML compliance, internal audits, and legal and risk management. He helped spearhead Penta’s acquisition by Qonto in 2022.

Zurich North America names Ann Chai chief risk officer

Zurich North America has appointed Ann Chai as chief risk officer

As CRO, Chai is responsible for leading all aspects of Zurich North America’s Risk function. This includes:

  • Ensuring groupwide governance and risk management responsibilities are met
  • Developing and implementing risk policies and monitoring adherence
  • Sponsoring projects and programs that contribute to the delivery of global initiatives
  • Taking accountability for meeting North America regulatory requirements

“Ann is the ideal person to lead the North America Risk function as we work to achieve our mission to embed a disciplined risk culture across the Zurich organization,” said Zurich group head of risk, Peter Giger.

WTW appoints new Corporate Risk & Broking Southeast Asia and Singapore leaders

WTW has announced the appointments of Rupert Roberts as head of corporate risk and broking (CRB) for Southeast Asia and Christine Lau as head of CRB Singapore.

As head of Southeast Asia, Rupert Roberts will work with WTW’s CRB country leaders in Brunei, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam, as well as the company’s partners in Malaysia and Thailand.

Christine Lau will lead the Singapore team in growing the CRB business across large accounts, specialty and industries through collaboration with WTW’s specialist teams.

Gallagher makes senior leadership appointment to head up its risk and compliance operations

Gallagher has appointed David Cousins as chief risk and compliance officer for its operations across Europe, Middle East and Asia (EMEA).

He has more than 25 years’ experience in regulatory, risk and compliance roles and joined Gallagher in 2007.

David said: “During my career at Gallagher, I’ve been able to support the business through an incredible period of transformational growth and it will now be my privilege to lead and progress the risk and compliance strategy as we continue that journey.”
