Talent is not the same as Skill. Talent is natural. The skill is learned.

Skill can be easily learned, but talent is not. If you only have the skill to perform a task but with no talent, you can’t really make a difference.

You have to define Talent. Maybe there is no risk. Maybe what we need is more skilled experienced people. I have never heard somebody say that “He is a talented Project Manager, but a skilled Project Manager or a skilled financial analyst, etc…” Yes, I heard: “a talented painter, a talented musician, etc…” Also, somebody might be talented, but not skilled, i.e. you can be a talented singer, but don’t have the skills to write your own songs.

Do you agree with this?

Some comments refer to skills, but the question is on Talent. So, what is it? Skills or Talent?

I believe we have a shortage of skilled experienced people (that is a risk) not of talented people; and we will have more when the next round of Baby boomers retires. But I know for a fact that many organizations took some necessary steps to avoid being affected too much and put strategies in place long time ago.

Do we really have a risk?
